Kinsmen Lodge is committed to providing care that is respectful and compassionate. Every resident has rights regarding their dignity, independence, and quality of life. These rights help guide everything we do.
Residents have the right to:
- Be treated with courtesy, dignity, and respect.
- Be free from neglect and protected from abuse, exploitation, and discrimination.
- Be properly sheltered, fed, clothed, groomed, and cared for.
- Be protected from infection through appropriate prevention and control practices.
- Participate in decisions about their care and be involved in all aspects of care planning.
- Move about and mobilize as freely as possible without unnecessary barriers.
- Have their privacy and confidentiality protected.
- Have their lifestyle preferences, choices, and values respected, including the choice to live with risk.
- Continue to participate in social, cultural, religious, spiritual, and other activities that are meaningful to them.
We also acknowledge that family members and loved ones play a vital role in our residents’ well-being. Residents have the right to choose who they would like involved in their care, including who may be their Essential Care Partner.
Essential Care Partners are valued members of our care team. They help us better understand each resident’s preferences, routines, and goals, while providing companionship, advocacy, and support. We encourage open communication and collaboration so that, together, we can provide the best possible care.
Listening to our residents, families, and Essential Care Partners is one of the best ways we can continue to improve.
Whether you have a compliment, a suggestion, a concern, or perhaps an idea, we encourage you to share it. Our Your Voice Matters electronic form is available to you and every submission is reviewed by the Leadership Team to help guide quality improvements throughout the home.
If you have a concern, we encourage you to speak with a member of our team. If you are unsure who to contact or would like to escalate a concern, simply ask Reception for a Who to Contact sheet. We are committed to listening, responding respectfully, and working together to resolve concerns.
Thank you for partnering with us to make Kinsmen Lodge a place where residents’ rights are respected, families are valued, and every voice matters.
