Greetings from Toronto where I am attending a Finance Conference as a director of Westminster Savings Credit Union. This is an opportunity to learn more about Governance and legislation changes which also helps me as CEO of Kinsmen Lodge. Other news is our Bord Chair, Brian Joel, qualified for and ran the Boston Marathon last week in 3hr 52 minutes. An excellent time! Leisa Bannerman, our Director of Recreation & Volunteers is walking the Vancouver Half Marathon on Sunday. Her husband, Gord, is running the full marathon of 42 km. We wish them both a great race!
The Society’s fiscal year ended on March 31/16 and our financials are in good shape. Our external audit is scheduled for mid May and the Society AGM is on Wednesday June 22/16. We hope our elders, staff, Society members and families will attend. At the meeting we will share the audited financial statement as well as our reportable indicators that we now must submit annually to CIHI including the timely and accurate quarterly health assessments of all our elders. The new challenge for the Care Team is to implement and migrate to a new software called PointClick Care for EMAR (Electronic Medical Administration Record), a method of recording when and which medications each elder receives daily. This is a significant transition that will complete on June 1/16. I want to thank the Care Team including Bev, Rey, Iris, Josie, Priscilla and Rosemary for leading this initiative.
April is Volunteer month and I want to thank all our volunteers who will be recognized at the annual Volunteer luncheon on Saturday April 30th. Last year they contributed over 10,000 volunteer hours which enhances the quality of life for our elders. Some of the volunteer activities include but not limited to bus outings, one on one with an elder, help at Happy Hour & Bingo, facilitate the JAVA Club, clean the garden, assist in the studio, manage the Shoppe, and help with our VIP’s i.e. “Very Important Pets”.
Safety is always a focus at Kinsmen Lodge and we are now planning an emergency exercise to ensure staff and elders know what to do in an emergency. Stay tuned for more details.
As it is officially spring, take some time with your loved ones to visit in the garden.
